"Edson’s vivid portrayal of the urban area, as well as the working class and underclass, creates a vision of Saint John that highlights the discrepancy between the pre-modern idyllic notion of life in Atlantic Canada and the more complicated reality of the region."

2021

2020 was a productive year for me. I finally (finally) finished THE BOULEVARD and am shopping it again. The highly-respected and super-awesome Bethany Gibson helped me get the manuscript to where it is today and I'm hopeful I'll find a home for it soon. It's an odd story and so I expected it would take some time for it to sell. I'm in no hurry.

As for new work, I have finished reading the first draft of my Streetsville novel LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER (and yes, I used the same title as the famous Roald Dahl short story). After the first reading I'm happy with it; it works. There is naturally work to do, but as a whole, it should be easier to find a home for it, as it is straight literary fiction like my Saint John novels.

I have also finished reading the first draft of my novella ANIMALS. This is a weird one too, and it will no doubt be difficult to sell, but hey, I'm writing what I want to write. As my editor at Oberon Press, Dilshad Engineer, once said to me, write for you; anything else -including publishing- is a bonus.
